  • Kolkata: West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) and West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) on Wednesday filed a miscellaneous application in Supreme Court, seeking an extension of deadline for teacher recruitment.

Sources said WBSSC has requested an extension until April 2027, while WBBSE has appealed for time until May 2027. SSC had halted recruitment to comply with revisions to OBC quota, which reduced reservation from 17% to 7%.

Earlier, the top court had set an Aug 31 deadline to complete recruitment, while allowing dismissed teachers to continue performing their duties and drawing salaries from state exchequer. Before the deadline expired, the state govt moved court for additional time to complete the process.

WBSSC also issued an order on Wednesday allowing candidates applying for assistant teacher recruitment (Classes 11 and 12) to use an edit option to update their category and sub-category in line with latest notification.
