BJP MLA threatens NT police station gherao, video goes viral

Kolkata: BJP MLA Piyush Kanodia allegedly led a protest at Narayanpur PS in New Town on Sunday evening after police picked up three people in connection with an alleged attempt to take control of a CPM office, with the MLA himself uploading a video on his social media page showing him threatening to gherao the police station and accusing the OC of corruption.
Kanodia denied the allegation, claiming police had reached a BJP office, demanded its keys and forcibly taken away three youths.
He also disputed the existence of a CPM office at the location, alleging the premises had remained closed because a person associated with it was involved in “anti-national activities”.
Former TMC MLA Tapas Chatterjee, however, said the premises belonged to the CPM and that the party had documents proving ownership. He said BJP workers had tried to take over the office. In a video, Kanodia is heard saying, “There will be a gherao here today.” DC Jyotirmoy Ray said the allegations would be investigated.
