BJP gives Sukanta charge of KMC polls, Rahul to look after Howrah

Kolkata: BJP on Tuesday appointed former state president and Union minister Sukanta Majumdar as the in charge of Kolkata Municipal Corporation election. Rajya Sabha MP Rahul Sinha has been given charge of Howrah civic body election. CM Suvendu Adhikari had said the elections would be held by December.
BJP state vice-president Anindya Banerjee was appointed co-in charge of KMC election committee while state industries minister Tapas Roy has been appointed the convener. Kashipur-Belgachhia MLA Ritesh Tiwari has been appointed as a co-convener of the committee.
Asked whether Trinamool former councillors who had crossed over to BJP would get tickets for civic polls, Majumdar said, “People join the party over time. That is a party expands. That does not mean party veterans will lose their importance.”
