Kolkata: Actor and former politician Soham Chakraborty has landed in fresh controversy after a carpenter lodged a complaint against him and his team, alleging assault, intimidation and phone snatching.
Raj Kapoor Sharma approached Behala Police Station alleging that he was assaulted after demanding payment for custom-made wooden furniture he had made for Chakraborty’s residence. According to police sources, Sharma had been working on the project for around one-and-a-half months after receiving an advance of Rs 30,000. With the work nearing completion, he sought payment of the remaining Rs 79,000, but alleged that the dues were repeatedly delayed.
Sharma alleged that a security guard asked him to visit the residence on Monday. After making him wait, he was allegedly told that no further payment would be made. When he insisted on settling the dues, an altercation followed, during which he claimed he was assaulted and his mobile phone was forcibly taken away.
Behala police are examining the complaint and are likely to question the parties involved. Chakraborty has not made any public statement on the allegations so far.
“He is both a celebrity and a public representative, she should be careful to avoid drawing such accusations. Society looks up to them, trusts them, and places confidence in them. If a worker commits some wrongdoing, it should be handled through other appropriate measures,” said state minister Dilip Ghosh.
Chakraborty was earlier caught on CCTV allegedly assaulting a New Town restaurant owner following a parking dispute.
