After court prod, cops lodge FIR against ‘stalker’ colleague

Kolkata: Cops have lodged an FIR against a police driver attached to an OC of the Bhangar police division for allegedly stalking, harassing and assaulting a pregnant woman, following court intervention after repeated complaints went unheeded.
The 30-year-old woman approached a magistrate under BNSS Section 175(3), alleging police inaction over months of harassment. Following the court’s Sunday order, Karaya police registered an FIR under multiple sections against the driver and an associate. Police said the accused has been served notice to join the investigation.
According to the complaint, stalking began in Sept 2025 when the driver, then attached to an OC posted at Karaya PS, allegedly made unwanted advances. Despite her refusals, he allegedly continued harassing her, forcing her to quit her job. She alleged he repeatedly invoked his superior’s name to intimidate people.
On April 4, the driver and his associate allegedly intercepted her while she was returning from a medical check-up. On May 13, when she was five months pregnant, the duo allegedly rammed their motorcycle into her from behind on Tiljala Road around 9.15 pm, injuring her abdomen. She had to be taken to hospital.
Despite multiple complaints to local police, Lalbazar and senior officers, and GD entries in Sept 2025 and May 2026, no FIR was registered. The woman then approached court. The court directed a probe, while Lalbazar will monitor the alleged police delay.
