Kolkata: RPF personnel at Phoolbagan Metro Station apprehended a 19-year-old youth on Monday evening after he breached the rear driving cabin of an operational train using an unauthorised key, triggering a major security alert along Kolkata Metro’s Green Line.
The suspect, Aritra Banerjee from Teghoria Park in Hooghly’s Adisaptagram, was intercepted at 7.34 pm, within minutes of the Traffic Controller and Operation Control Centre (OCC) raising an alert, at 7.31 pm.
RPF personnel, including constable Rameshwar, intercepted Banerjee shortly after he stepped out of the train cabin. During initial questioning, the teenager admitted to using an unauthorised key to enter the cabin.
The suspect was formally handed over to local law enforcement in presence of metro officials, including shift-in-charge of Phoolbagan station Razik Ahmad, the traffic inspector for the Green Line, and Sachchida Nand Kumar, IC of the RPF Post at Central Park Depot (CPD).
A probe is underway to determine how the youth acquired the key and whether he had any broader motives for trespassing into the restricted area.
Investigators are probing if the key had been hanging by the driver’s cabin or was a duplicate made by an outside vendor, or procured through an insider source.
As of Thursday evening, there was no official Metro response on the incident.
