  • Malda: A 60-year-old man was found dead at his home in Englishbazar, allegedly killed by a relative and his friend after he refused to give them money for online gaming.

Arnab Sen’s throat was slit and his body wrapped in a bedsheet when family members found him dead on Friday morning.

Police found no major signs of a scuffle in the room and two empty teacups suggested that the accused were known to the victim. There were bloodstains on the bed and near a washbasin. Sen’s mobile phone was also missing.

Tracking the phone, cops arrested Subhajit Ghosh of Kamlabari. Later, police picked up Subhajit’s friend Koushik Ghosh. The two have confessed to the murder, said sources.

According to police, Subhajit was addicted to the online game Aviator and had borrowed Rs 3 lakh for in-game purchases.

As Sen came to his ancestral home on Thursday from Jadavpur, where he usually stays and manages his business, the accused duo approached him and asked for money, said police. “Subhajit, who called Sen ‘grandpa’, made up some story and sought money. Sen refused and asked the duo to leave. The accused then killed him with a sharp weapon,” said Malda SP Anupam Singh.

The accused took Sen’s phone to withdraw money from his account, but failed.

The duo was produced before a Malda court on Saturday and remanded in police custody for 10 days.
