  • Durgapur: A political controversy erupted in West Burdwan’s Durgapur after a statue of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was allegedly uprooted and dumped in a nearby jungle.

    The incident, which took place on Aug 27 at Durgapur A Zone’s Harshavardhan area, sparked protests by Congress workers who demanded action against those responsible.

    A delegation of Congress workers submitted a mass petition at Durgapur police station on Sunday, urging the authorities to act swiftly. The party also issued a 24-hour ultimatum, demanding that the statue be restored and reinstalled at its original location. Congress workers warned of larger protests across the district if their demands were not met.

    Police officials confirmed receiving the mass petition and said an investigation into the incident has been initiated.
