Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Monday declined urgent hearing of Bengal cricketer Abishek Porel, arrested for alleged rape, stating that “the allegations are serious” and asked him to move HC for bail after the lower court rejected it.
His counsel Moyukh Mukherjee mentioned the matter before Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya. “The HC had directed the apprehension of a private person for the purpose of seizure of electronic devices,” Mukherjee submitted, adding that Porel has been in custody since his arrest on the intervening night of Aug 10 and 11.
“The returnable date is Sept 14. When I made the bail application, bail was refused. Now that the chargesheet has been submitted and there was limited purpose for the arrest,” Mukherjee submitted. The single judge asked him to file a bail application before HC.
