Kolkata: NRS Medical College & Hospital has conducted an inquiry into the allegations of wrong surgery on a patient from Beleghata. The preliminary findings suggest investigation reports pointing to acute appendicitis for which doctors conducted the surgery.
According to the preliminary report submitted by health officials, Gopal Porel came to the OPD on July 8 with complaints of acute pain in the right lower abdomen. After clinically diagnosing acute appendicitis, doctors conducted the surgery on the same day. Medical records in the hospital say thick pus collection.
The findings of the inquiry said that post the surgery, the patient also complained of discomfort in the chest. Another investigative test found a gallstone, which was asymptomatic. Doctors planned the gallbladder surgery at a later stage.
“The patient left the hospital against medical advice after about three days of the surgery. A biopsy report conducted at the hospital also mentions acute recurrent appendicitis. I will be communicating the findings with MLA Kunal Ghosh,” said state health minister Sharadwat Mukherjee.
Health minister had asked the hospital authority to probe into the allegations right after he came across the complaint. According to the allegations, Porel had complained that his appendicitis was wrongly removed instead of a gallbladder stone. TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh later appealed to CM and health minister for a probe.
