Bengal Police job applicants protest in Kolkata, demand results

Kolkata: Around 4,000 Bengal Police job applicants staged a protest on Monday, demanding the immediate publication of recruitment results.
The candidates, who had applied for constable and sub-inspector posts, marched from Sealdah station to Esplanade despite heavy rain. They claimed the recruitment process had been delayed for too long. The notification was issued in 2024; written exams were held in Nov 2025; physical tests followed; and final interviews ended in Feb 2026. However, the final selection list has still not been published.
Protesters carried placards saying, “We want the uniform this Puja,” and warned of bigger protests if the results are not released before the festival season.
The rally caused major traffic disruption in central Kolkata for more than three hours. Moulali crossing, CIT Road, S N Banerjee Road, Lenin Sarani and A J C Bose Road were badly affected. The disruption also coincided with school dispersal hours, worsening congestion.
Traffic police diverted vehicles through Chittaranjan Avenue, CIT Road, Esplanade and Moulali to keep traffic moving.
