Kolkata: Jadavpur University VC Chiranjib Bhattacharjee appealed to all stakeholders to refrain from making personal or disparaging comments about any teacher, officer, employee, researcher, student or other member of the university, whether on campus or on social media and other public platforms.
“There may naturally be differences of opinion, criticism or grievances in any academic community. Such matters should, however, be addressed with maturity and through appropriate forums and channels. Public criticism should never descend into personal attacks, insults, ridicule, intimidation or any form of conduct that may adversely affect the dignity or reputation of an individual or disturb the atmosphere of the university,” he wrote.
“Our words and actions have an impact on others and on the larger institutional environment. It is, therefore, important that while exercising our right to express ourselves, we remain mindful of the dignity of others and of the values that Jadavpur University represents.”
Reminding stakeholders of the university’s identity, shaped by openness of thought, diversity of views and culture of democratic exchange of ideas, he called upon everyone to treat every member of university with dignity and respect and maintain an atmosphere of mutual respect, understanding and responsible expression.
