• Idols, ornaments stolen from Beleghata temple

  • Kolkata: Police have launched an investigation into a midnight temple burglary in Beleghata after somebody broke into a Kali temple at Ram Krishna Naskar Lane and stole valuable ornaments, idols and other temple articles.

    The incident came to light after Santanu Chakraborty (35), a local resident, filed a written complaint at Beleghata Police Station on Tuesday.

    According to the complaint, the stolen items included a stone idol of Laxmi Narayan, two brass idols of Gopal, two Radha Krishna idols, five copper thrones (singhasan), brass worship utensils, seven silver crowns (chura), a 10-gram gold chain, a 2-gram gold crown (chura), the donation (pronami) box and cash.

    The thief also allegedly damaged an idol of Shani Dev inside the sanctum sanctorum.

    Police registered a case under BNS sections 305(d) and 324(2). Forensic teams collected evidence, while investigators are examining CCTV footage and checking local scrap dealers and pawnshops. Further investigation is underway.
