BJP, Motha netas to meet in Delhi over VC poll alliance

Agartala: Ahead of the Village Committee (VC) elections in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC), senior BJP and TIPRA Motha netas are scheduled to meet in New Delhi on Friday to break the deadlock over a possible alliance and chalk out an electoral strategy.
Chief Minister Manik Saha and TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman have already left for Delhi. Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma and minister of state Brishaketu Debbarma are also expected to attend the meeting.
A senior Motha neta said the discussions are likely to focus on the upcoming VC elections and a possible BJP-Motha alliance. The party, however, remains firm on implementation of the tripartite agreement.
“Our agreement stands firm. The govt must honour the commitments under this agreement. Without these, an alliance won’t be viable,” said Ranjit Debbarma.
He said indigenous communities in Assam, including the Karbi and Bodo, enjoy constitutional and political rights and similar safeguards should be extended for Tripura’s indigenous people.
“This is about constitutional rights. If rights are being granted there, why not for Tripura’s indigenous residents?” he questioned.
Motha has begun its nomination process for the VC polls. Debbarma said the party had authorised its MLAs and MDCs to oversee the process and was well-prepared for the elections.
