Kolkata: Police have registered an FIR against Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra under non-bailable sections for allegedly inciting communal discord and summoned her to appear before the Diamond Harbour Cyber Crime Police Station at 11:00 am on Saturday.
The FIR was lodged following a complaint by a local, Sonu Bera. Cops invoked sections 196, 197, 299, and 353 of the BNS Sanhita (BNS), which address promoting enmity between groups, acts prejudicial to national integration, deliberate acts outraging religious feelings, and statements causing public mischief.
The action follows Moitra’s Sept 1 post on X, where she alleged that Muslim IAS and IPS officers were deliberately excluded from Union home minister Amit Shah’s programme in North Bengal.
