RSS journal slams JU, calls for relocation of depts to stop ‘jihadi’ forces

Kolkata: Days after BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Rahul Sinha called upon the govt to erase “Maoists and Naxals” from Jadavpur University, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s publication, ‘Swastika’, has severely criticised the recent developments at JU and claimed that several departments need to be relocated to different areas to stop ‘jihadi’ forces.
In the Swastika edition published a few days ago, an article titled 'Gao Bhangoner Gan’, the author said that JU has become a place of ‘jihadi’ and ‘anti-national’ elements who shout slogans for 'Azad Kashmir’ and show solidarity to Palestine.
Seeking the state govt to relocate the engineering and humanities depts to different locations like New Town, the article argued that this will help curb ‘jihadi’ forces on the campus to a large extent. “There are two different divisive forces on the campus. The engineering dept is influenced by the Maoist forces and Naxals who believe in violent movements. The humanities dept is influenced by leftist forces who take part in parliamentary democracy and believe in philosophies outside India,” the author wrote in the article.
It has also mentioned about popular student movements like 'Hok Kolorob’ and crackdown by the state police in 2014. The protests erupted after the JU administration allegedly mishandled a complaint regarding a molestation case on campus in Aug 2014. Student demonstrations faced a brutal midnight police crackdown in Sept 2014, which injured numerous students and galvanised public outrage.
A few days ago, Jadavpur MLA Sarbari Mukherjee said she would collect signatures on a mass petition to rename the university after Rishi Aurobindo. The article also recounted the formation of the National Council of Education in 1906 and Arabinda was nominated the first principal of the Bengal National College under the National Council.
The Swastika article has also referred to how the then Union Minister Babul Supriyo was heckled while trying to attend an ABVP programme in 2019. Referring to recent developments of clashes between Left student organisations and ABVP, the article said the time has come to “change Jadavpur University”. “The anti-national graffiti on the walls are already being erased. The leftist forces will have to be wiped off completely now,” said the article.
