  • Kolkata: The Centre has approved Rs 1,042.62 crore for widening and strengthening six road projects covering 194.10 km across Bengal under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme, Union minister for road transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said in a social media post on Tuesday.

Gadkari said the projects would improve connectivity, reduce travel time and enhance road safety. The upgraded roads are also expected to improve access to markets, educational institutions and healthcare facilities.

The projects will boost the movement of people and goods, support regional trade and strengthen last-mile connectivity, he said.

The investment is expected to increase road capacity, improve key routes and reduce transportation costs while making journeys safer and more convenient.

The approval comes under the CRIF scheme, through which funds are provided for development and strengthening of road infrastructure.

State transport minister Arjun Singh welcomed this initiative.
