Calcutta High Court allows advocate to retrieve briefs
Times of India | 9 September 2026Justice Krishna Rao directed the divisional fire in-charge to inform Bhattacharjee of the fire-safety measures he needed to make to his chamber. Once the changes are carried out in the next two weeks, an inspection would be held. If found fire-compliant, Bhattacharjee’s chamber will be allowed to function temporarily until authorities take a final decision. The CESC was also directed to inspect and suggest changes to Bhattacharjee’s chamber, if any.
But this “temporary” allowance would not set a precedent for other commercial units in the affected building to seek similar arrangements, said the court. “It is made clear that if the authority decides to demolish it, then the petitioner will not claim any right,” Justice Rao said.
