Clean up vacant plots or get ready to pay fine: Minister Agnimitra Paul
Times of India | 9 September 2026Paul led an awareness rally regarding dengue and cleanliness in Chaulpatty area in Baguiati that comes under the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation and announced the extension of the three-day statewide cleanliness and dengue prevention drive for another three days starting Tuesday.
“Your negligence is resulting in people in your neighbourhood getting affected with dengue. This is not acceptable. You must keep your own premises clean, otherwise we will impose a huge penalty, which will be attached to your property tax bill,” cautioned Paul.
She added that dengue cases in Bidhannagar stand at 42 presently, which is much less than at the same time in the previous year when the number was 160. “Our target is to bring down dengue cases to zero and for this, we have undertaken cleaning of clogged drains and canals, imposed fines for throwing garbage on roads, urinating or defecating in public, and spitting. Our intention is not to earn by imposing fines but to dissuade people from such activities,” she added.
The department has also started providing dustbins at strategic locations and constructing toilets.
