  • Jalpaiguri: The state education department has ordered a probe into Tuesday’s incident in which Jalpaiguri Zilla School headmaster Dharmu Chand Barui was assaulted and left bleeding by students. School education minister Dipak Barman is likely to visit the school on Friday to inquire into the incident. He will meet headmasters of other schools in the locality.

On Wednesday, acting on the instructions of school education department principal secretary Binod Kumar, the district inspector of schools (secondary) Sujit Sarkar visited the school and spoke to teachers to ascertain what led to the altercation. Considering his present health condition, the headmaster has been allowed 15 days of leave.

The DI has sought to find out whether there had been any previous complaints against Barui or incidents that may have led to resentment among students .“I have been instructed to probe the incident and submit a report. I will do that within the given time,” Sarkar said.

Barui is undergoing treatment at Jalpaiguri Medical College and Hospital.
