KMC delimitation hearings end, SEC to decide on reserved seats
Times of India | 10 September 2026A civic official said they received around 300 suggestions and objections from political parties and individuals. Several political functionaries filed multiple complaints and appeared before the hearing officers more than once to speak about their separate grievances. “We treated each complaint individually and sent out invitations to appear before hearing officers,” said a KMC official. Ten state officials were deputed as hearing officers.
A state official said the hearing officers would submit the reports to the state municipal affairs and urban development department, which would take a call on how much changes to incorporate, if at all. The state will publish a final ward-wise boundary and send it to the state election commission. “The final ward-wise boundary, after factoring in the objections and suggestions, will be published. It will be a public document,” said an official.
The commission’s task will be to publish the parts included in each of the wards and reserve the women’s and SC and ST seats. “The state or the KMC is not the authority to decide on the wards to be reserved for SC, ST and woman candidates. It is the prerogative of the SEC,” said an official.
