CM to attend Hanuman Chalisa, Vedic recitation events outside JU
Times of India | 11 September 2026The programmes are being organised against the backdrop of Adhikari’s remarks during Wednesday’s Gerua Samman Yatra, when he said the events were intended to “teach a lesson to those who, while staying within the country, are insulting the countrymen and saffron”.
The Hanuman Chalisa programme will be organised by the West Bengal Sanatan Sanskriti Parishad. Its president Pijush Banerjee said the date and format of the event were yet to be finalised but confirmed that it would be the first of the three programmes.
“We are yet to fix the date and the overall format of the programme, but it will be attended by the chief minister at the same venue where he spoke during the Gerua Samman Yatra on Wednesday. Participants from the Sanatani community, as well as sadhus and saints from across Bengal, will attend,” Banerjee said.
According to organisers, a stage will be set up near the Jadavpur 8B bus stand for all three programmes, similar to the arrangements made for the Rakhi Purnima rally last month.
The three-day Vedic recitation programme is expected to draw saints from other states as well, a senior BJP functionary of the South Kolkata district committee said.
Police said traffic movement could be affected on all five days of the programmes, depending on the turnout and arrangements.
