Three thrash couple after rash driving protest at Ballygunge
Times of India | 11 September 2026“We asked a guard at the apartment to help us push the car but despite several attempts, the vehicle did not restart. So we left it by the road next to Sunny Park and started to walk home,” the woman stated in her police complaint. Even as her companion was locking the car, a white sedan came speeding down the road and swerved dangerously close, narrowly missing her. When her companion objected to such driving, the vehicle was reportedly stopped and three youths alighted. They reportedly spoke to them aggressively and started a scuffle, the woman told police.
“The attackers repeatedly shoved, punched, threw down, and verbally abused the female victim” even as her partner attempted to save her. One of the youths reportedly retrieved a baton from their car’s trunk and hit the woman repeatedly on her arm and the man’s head, police said. The male victim, she claimed, in self defence, attacked one of the youths, following which one of his companions ran away and the the other drive away. Moments later, the vehicle sped back to retrieve their “abandoned” friend and while driving away, they nearly ran the woman over a second time, police said.
A case has been registered at the Ballygunge Police Station, where the victims claimed the perpetrators—21-year-old youths from the locality—were now pressuring them, through their parents, to withdraw the case. “We have registered an FIR of assault and hurt. We have not arrested anyone yet,” said an officer.
Police are analysing footage of CCTV cameras from the locality and in front of Sunny Park, to zero in on the licence plate of the vehicle used by the accused and document the sequence of the road rage.
