West Bengal govt sanctions Rs 38.8cr for BLOs’ SIR remuneration
Times of India | 11 September 2026The disbursement of the remuneration would start soon through district election officers in 22 districts. The maximum allocation of Rs 4.4 crore has been made for South 24 Parganas, followed by Rs 4.3 crore for North 24 Parganas.
According to officials, each BLO will get Rs 5,000 for their SIR assignment, which had started in Nov last month. The decision to disburse the honorarium to the BLOs followed a green signal from Election Commission. The district election officers will monitor the disbursement.
The BLOs have been waiting for their remuneration for the past five months. Now many of them are engaged in the Census work, for which they will get an honorarium separately.
Swapan Dasgupta, general secretary of the BLOs’ outfit, Votekarmi-o-BLO Aikya Mancha, stated: “The BLOs have been awaiting the payment for long, and the govt order will give them some relief. However, the BLOs will be given Rs 5,000 as per the order while the due amount of each BLO is Rs 7,000.”
A BLO in south Kolkata stated: “Our remuneration is Rs 12,000. We have received Rs 5,000 and we’ve been waiting for the remaining Rs 7,000 for long. But the order says that Rs 5,000 will be credited to our account and there is no clarity when the rest Rs 2,000 will be given to us.”
