CID likely to take Sumit to Abhishek’s office over money trail probe
Times of India | 13 September 2026CID told a Midnapore court in its remand note on Friday that Roy — whose statement has been recorded under Section 180 of BNSS — had reportedly assured the probe agency that he would “fully cooperate” with the ongoing interrogation.
Roy was produced before the CJM court in Midnapore, where assistant public prosecutor Syed Nazim Habib presented CID’s findings and argued for custodial interrogation. The court also granted permission for Roy’s advocate to have a daily 20-minute legal consultation during his eight-day remand period.
Roy’s lawyer Agnish Basu said according to the permission granted by the court, he met Roy on Saturday. “The date for Roy’s production has been fixed for the 19. He will remain in police custody until that day,” he said.
Basu added: “When the case seeking protection was being heard in Supreme Court, it was said that when Sujoy Hazra and Sumit Roy were questioned together, Hazra had completely denied sending any money to Roy; this is also on video.”
The case involves the alleged fraudulent acquisition and manipulation of 420 decimals of land across nine plots in Sitarampur mouza, located in the Salboni area. To trace the full financial trail, the agency has sought Roy’s bank statement records dating back to 2018.
CID pushed for custody after Roy committed to cooperating with the agency by providing crucial financial details and revealing the key operatives involved in the wider land corruption racket.
The investigating team expects his custodial questioning to uncover the remaining links and identify further beneficiaries of the multi-decimal land scam.
