Flight from Paris makes emergency landing at Kolkata airport

Sources said the aircraft did not have sufficient fuel to remain airborne for long, prompting the pilot to opt for an immediate landing in Kolkata rather than continue flying. Passengers remained on board for some time after landing while engineers began working to rectify the technical problem. As the glitch could not be fixed immediately, flyers were later deboarded around 4pm and accommodation was arranged for them at hotels.
The glitch had not been rectified till Sunday evening. It was not immediately clear how long the repairs would take or when the passengers would be able to resume their journey to Bangkok.
Aircalin, or Air Calédonie International, operates SB 501 on the Paris-Bangkok-Noumea route. The flight connects Paris Charles de Gaulle with Noumea’s La Tontouta International Airport in New Caledonia -- which is an overseas collectivity of France in the Pacific Ocean -- with Bangkok as a stopover.
