  • Kolkata: A clash between two rival workers’ factions on Cossipore Road left at least eight persons injured on Saturday night. Sources said the confrontation stemmed from a dispute over inducting new workers at the Cossipore Gun and Shell Factory and letting a few others go.

While both factions claimed allegiance to BJP and accused each other of colluding with Trinamool, both parties have distanced themselves from the violence, stating they had no involvement in the incident.

The violence unfolded in multiple stages near the residential pockets along Cossipore Road and K C Road. According to initial complaints lodged with police, a late-night altercation broke out around 11 pm when a large group of outsiders allegedly breached a local complex. Armed with sticks, rods, and other weapons, they began damaging vehicles. When residents attempted to intervene, they were assaulted.

A counter-complaint, filed by a local named in the first FIR, said the violence started during an ambush near the market area. According to this account, the victim was cornered and beaten with sticks.

    Cops have started a cross-investigation.
