KMDA seeks Rs 1.1 cr for Old Durgapur Bridge repairs
Times of India | 14 September 2026Traffic congestion has been occurring on the city bound flank and on the flank entering VIP Road as vehicles were moving slow due to the potholes that had developed on the bridge‘s carriageway. Motorists said that traffic snarls were occurring throughout the day and were aggravating during rush office hours. “The bridge’s carriageway is repeatedly getting damaged after patch repairs as vehicles have to move slow, resulting in traffic snarls,” said a motorist.
Officials said that work is being done during night when traffic pressure is at its lowest. “Due to incessant monsoon rains, bituminous work could not be taken. Patch work is being done using concrete paver blocks to cover the potholed spots on the bridge‘s carriageway,” said an official. Patch work of the bridge’s carriageway was earlier conducted for two days in July and for five days in Aug with the police but the covered up spots again developed wear and tear due to continuous accumulation of water due to rains and the uninterrupted movement of heavy vehicles, officials said.
“Proper and thorough repair work of the bridge’s carriageway by peeling off the damaged bitumen layer and laying fresh bitumen macadam was required after the monsoon. A Rs 1.1 crore proposal has been placed to the govt for administrative approval,” said an official.
Inset -- KMDA will take up work to repair and resurface the bituminous carriageway Bagmari bridge over circular canal at Maniktala. The authorities have initiated the process to engage an agency and an estimate of around Rs 41 lakh has been estimated for the work.
