• ‘Bursting of crackers largely within limits’
    Times of India | 2 January 2024
  • KOLKATA: Barring a few pockets of defiance, bursting of firecrackers remained largely within the limits set by the Supreme Court on Sunday night for ushering in the new year. Kalyan Rudra, chairman of West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB), said there was no major aberration as police were prompt and people showed remarkable restraint. The state Pollution Control Board (PCB) and NGOs in the city barely received any firecracker complaints.

Naba Dutta of Sabuj Mancha, however, said a few complaints were received from Howrah, Hooghly Konnagar, Birati, and Srerampore, but the volume was negligible compared to past years. TOI team, however, found bursting of aerial firecrackers was rampant in some parts of city like Shyambazar, Hatibagan, Jorasanko, Wellesley, Kasba and Behala.
