  • Kolkata: Following a recent clash at New Town’s Tarulia during a drive to remove makeshift shops to make way for a sewerage line network project, officials of New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) on Tuesday held a meeting with the local MLA and officials of the bordering Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) wards to find out a way to rehabilitate the hawkers.

“It has been discussed that the makeshift stalls will have to be removed and new stalls will be set up by NKDA to rehabilitate the hawkers,” said Trinamool panchayat member for New Town Anupam Maity.

Officials said that there will be no forceful eviction and the next date of conducting the removal is yet to be decided.

“The matter is being discussed with the hawkers’ representatives for a mutual settlement,” said an official.
