  • Kolkata: Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar called Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee on Thursday to convey birthday greetings. He also invited Banerjee and his wife to have dinner with him in Delhi. This comes after the mimicry row which gripped Parliament in the winter session.

Banerjee had earlier said that he had nothing against Dhankhar personally and respected him as a senior parliamentarian and a lawyer. Banerjee, however, has insisted that mimicry was a form of art.

On Thursday, the MP said he was willing to put everything behind and move on. Speaking to TOI, Banerjee said, “Dhankhar called me around 8.30am. He spoke to my wife as well. He has known me personally for a long time. It is good that he has chosen to move on. That is what we should all do.” Taking to his X handle, Banerjee said, “I thank the hon’ble Vice-President for his warm greetings on my birthday. I am overwhelmed that he personally had a telephone conversation with my wife and conveyed his blessings to my entire family. He also invited my wife and me to have dinner at his residence in Delhi with his family.”

Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla too posted on X to wish Banerjee.

Banerjee is among the 141 opposition MPs suspended from Parliament. The senior lawyer on Thursday remained unsure on when the suspension would be lifted. “I have no such information,” he said.
