• Indian Museum in Kolkata gets bomb threat over email; search underway

  • The Indian Museum in Kolkata received a bomb threat via email, prompting police teams and the bomb squad to rush to the spot. The museum has been closed for the next few hours in the wake of the threat, according to a notice issued by the authorities.

    According to police sources, the email sent early on Friday said multiple bombs were placed in the museum and the explosions could kill several people. On receiving the email, the museum authorities immediately reported the matter to the police. Sources said the bomb squad has already started a search operation on the premises. Each room in the museum is being examined carefully. The police are sanitising the entire building.

    The area in front of the museum has been cordoned off. All tourists and visitors are being turned away, while pedestrians are being asked to leave the sidewalk.

    A probe is also underway to determine who is behind the email.
