The BJP is all set to organise Banga Sangeet Utsav (Bengal Music Festival) from January 20 in an attempt to provide a platform to the cultural talent that it alleged was ignored by the Trinamool Congress government in the state.

The event under the banner of the Cultural and Literary Forum of Bengal will be held at Princep Ghat in Kolkata.

Addressing a press conference at the Kolkata Press Club, Jitendra Tiwari, president of the Cultural and Literary Forum of Bengal and former mayor of Asansol, on Friday said the event will be a unique opportunity for artists from diverse backgrounds.

Musicians such as Purnadas Baul, Devjit Banerjee, and Riddhi Bandyopadhyay will perform during the event, it is learnt.

Expressing the BJP’s “commitment to encourage inclusivity in the cultural landscape”, he said, “We will give a platform to artists who do not get an opportunity due to nepotism in the TMC government.”

Riddhi Bandyopadhyay, who also attended the press conference, claimed that young artists in Bengal were “trapped in political agenda” and were forced to focus on making contacts instead of showcasing their talent.
