  • West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose gave “specific instructions” to the state government for the immediate arrest of TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh, the Raj Bhavan said on Saturday night.

“On the receipt of a complaint at the Peace Room of Raj Bhavan that Shahjahan Sheikh is supported by some political leaders with the connivance of some police officers, Hon’ble Governor instructed the (state) police chief to arrest the culprit forthwith and report compliance. Failing which, his whereabouts may be ascertained and appropriate action taken. The complaint that he has crossed the border and he has liaison with terrorists may be enquired into immediately,” the Raj Bhawan said in the statement.

In June 2023, the Governor had set up a ‘Peace room’ in the Raj Bhawan with an eight-member team to look into complaints of violence in the state.

Managed by an eight-member team, ‘Peace Room’ is directly monitored by the Governor.

The ‘Peace Room’ is operational 24×7. An exclusive email id, osd2w.b.governor@gmail.com, has been created so that people can mail their grievances.

Sheikh is considered close to former minister and North 24 Parganas TMC district president Jyotipriya Mullick, who was earlier arrested in the alleged ration ‘scam’. He owns a string of fishery units and brick kilns.
