  • Kolkata: Junior doctors at Medical College and Hospital (MCH) Kolkata on Tuesday staged a protest in front of the principal’s office against alleged ragging of two junior residents by two PG trainees. They also lodged a complaint with the principal, seeking action against the two seniors.

Medical College Students’ Union and Medical College Kolkata Resident Doctors’ Assn, too, demanded action.

Bittu Dhar and Johnson Praveen Ambedkar claimed they had been facing physical and mental harassment by seniors Souryabrata Ray Mahasay and Diganta Biswas for almost four months ever since they joined Unit 1 orthopaedic department. The complainants alleged they were verbally harassed in front of patients. The seniors would also assault them, which led to one of falling unconscious on one occasion, they claimed. The junior residents claimed both were under psychiatric consultation now.

But the seniors denied the charges and alleged some juniors were marring the college atmosphere, making the place unfit for studies.

MCH officials confirmed receiving the complaint.
