• Repeat CRS checks for EW Metro
    Times of India | 11 January 2024
  • Kolkata: A team of the Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) will check East-West Metro before their head makes the final inspection, a source said. It’s the first time any new Metro line would be going through repeat inspections for safety clearance.

KMRC, which is implementing the 16km corridor, is desperately trying to complete all pending work (especially the portion that involves rake transportation) and adhere to the 19 issues pointed out by the safety regulator during its December 15 visit. But some work is still pending.

Sources said Metro Railway, which is in charge of operations of the city’s rapid transit network, has made the compliance status known to its higher authority in Delhi and it was thus decided that the CRS chief will visit only after getting a report from its team on the current status of the new Metro line.

The mandatory compliance report from KMRC will also be sent to the CRS, seeking a revisit to facilitate an imminent launch of East-West Metro’s under-river operations from Esplanade to Howrah Maidan.
