Two people were arrested on Friday in connection with last week's attack on ED officers at Sandeshkhali, in Bengal's North 24-Parganas. These are the first arrests in the case.
Police said the two men - identified as Mehboor Mollah and Sukamal Sardar - were picked up from a hideout near a pond at Nazat early on Friday. They were produced in a Basi-rhat court in the afternoon and remanded in police custody for three days. Police said the two accused were identified by examining footage of the attack. "There was a huge crowd. We have identified two persons from the video footage and arrested them. We are also looking for the others involved in the attack," Basirhat SP Joby Thomas told TOI.
