On Janaury 5, a mob of men and women attacked a team of ED officials when they had reached Sandeshkhali to conduct searches at the house of TMC Zilla Parishad member Shahjahan Sheikh in alleged connection with the ration distribution scam.

Mollah and Sarkar had fled after the attack and were arrested on Friday based on a tip-off, police said.

“Based on various video footage, today we have arrested the two persons,” Basirhat SP Joby Thomas said. The duo were produced before a court, which sent them to police custody for three days. However, Sheikh is still on the run.
