• 40-year-old woman dies of injuries after two groups clash at Cooch Behar village

  • A 40-year-old woman died of injuries after two groups of villagers clashed at a village in Cooch Behar on Thursday.

    Sources said the families of Shahjahan Mohammad and Jabeda Bibi, who reside in 25 Teesta Payasti village under Mekhliganj police station, clashed over cattle trampling potatoes in a field.

    Sayera Bibi and Ashima Khatun, who are from Shahjahan’s family, and Mozaffar Md and Joygun Bewa from Jabeda’s family got injured in the incident. They were admitted to the Mekhliganj sub-divisional hospital. Later, Sayera died on the way to Jalpaiguri district hospital.

    Both sides have filed police complaints and two persons were arrested in connection to the case. A police picket was raised in the area to prevent the recurrence of any violence, sources said.

    BSF cop 'suicide'


    Satyawan Singh, 48, a constable posted at the 138th battalion of the BSF at Khaspara border outpost of the Bangladesh border in Cooch Behar, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle on Friday.

    Sahebganj police recovered his body. A probe has started.

    Shot at


    Yasin Khandakar of Fakirtari village under Dinhata police station, Cooch Behar, was shot at on Thursday night.

    Yasin said he was returning home when he felt something hit his abdomen and shouted for help. He was admitted to the sub-divisional hospital in Dinhata. Police have registered a case and are probing the incident.
