  • Kolkata: Bidhannagar Police has started training teachers from various schools in cyber safety and women and child safety so that they can pass on the lessons to their students on a regular basis.

The cops so far used to train the schoolchildren once or twice every year but this time they have decided to train the teachers so that they can educate the students in the classrooms throughout the year.

“The availability of smartphones and internet among schoolchildren and easy access to social media have made students vulnerable to falling prey to cybercrimes. That is why cyber safety and digital civics should be a part of school curriculum,” said a senior officer of Bidhannagar City Police.

In the last few days, such sessions were organised at Labanhrad Girls’ High School, Dum Dum Park Girls’ High School and Chittaranjan Colony Girls’ High School by different police stations of the commissionerate.

“The students and teachers were given lessons in safety measures like security of accounts, removing unwanted posts, safely downloading games and applications, safe sharing and posting and identifying frauds. What is most important is not to share private photographs and private information to little-known persons over social media,” the officer said.
