• Kolkata sees season’s coldest day as temperature dips across state

  • Kolkata on Saturday recorded the coldest day of the season at 12.6 degrees Celsius amid a significant dip in temperatures across West Bengal over the weekend.

    The wind speed in Kolkata was recorded at 15 km per hour, and humidity at 45%. The homeless people or those living in slum areas of the city were seen taking refuge around bonfires.

    Meanwhile, Sriniketan in Bolpur witnessed a minimum of 7.4 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

    The Meteorological Department has predicted temperature plummetting to a minimum of 9 degrees Celsius in Purulia. In other western parts of Bengal such as Bankura, Bardhaman, and Paschim Medinipur, the minimum temperature touched 10 degrees Celsius at night.

    In Darjeeling of north Bengal, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 13 degrees and 6.6 degrees Celsius, respectively. Barring “shallow to moderate fog” at a few places, the weather is likely to remain dry in the coming days, officials said. However, dense fog is likely at one or two places in Jalpaiguri, they said.

    Also, there is a possibility of light rain in some pockets of the district on Tuesday and Wednesday. Scattered light rain” may occur in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Alipurduar districts, the weather office said. Also, light rain showers are likely at isolated places in western parts of Bengal such as South 24 Parganas and Purba Medinipur districts.

    Guwahati-bound flight from Mumbai diverted to Dhaka due to bad weather

    A Guwahati-bound IndiGo flight from Mumbai was diverted to Dhaka due to bad weather conditions in the Assam city, the airline said on Saturday.
    The incident took place late Friday night, it said.

    An alternative set of crew is being arranged to operate the flight to its destination, IndiGo said. “IndiGo flight 5319 from Mumbai to Guwahati was diverted to Dhaka, Bangladesh due to bad weather in Guwahati. Due to operational reasons, an alternate set of crew is being arranged to operate the flight from Dhaka to Guwahati,” the airline said in the statement.

    The passengers were kept informed of the updates and were served with refreshments on board, it added.
