  • Kolkata: Education minister Bratya Basu on Saturday questioned the reason behind governor-chancellor C V Ananda Bose’s remarks that the governor does not reply to any department’s letter, rather exchange communication with government. Bose on Saturday said, “Let the government send a letter, then a reply will be given.”

A day before, higher education department sent a letter to Raj Bhavan seeking clarification on the January 5 letter from senior special secretary to the governor, addressed to VCs of state universities.Basu wrote on X handle, “The governor said that he does not reply to any government department’s letters, the exchange is always between the government and his excellency! Few words on this…What is the difference between the government and government departments? What will happen to those letters that had been exchanged between higher education department and the governor’s secretariat for so long?”

Raj Bhavan’s January 5 letter stated higher education department’s instructions to be “unauthorized” and officiating VCs should bring any such correspondence to chancellor’s office before proceeding further.
