• Delhi fog delays flights, leaves fliers stranded in Kolkata for hours

  • KOLKATA: Hundreds of Delhi-bound fliers from Kolkata were stranded at Kolkata airport for hours after flight movement to and from Delhi airport was hampered for several hours in the morning due to poor weather and low visibility at Delhi.

The capital’s severe cold coupled with dense fog prevented landing and takeoff at Delhi airport between 4.30 am and 7.30 am on Sunday delaying several flights from Kolkata and from across the country for hours and leaving fliers stranded and frustrated.

A flier with X (formerly Twitter) ID @tapojjwalpal posted on the social media platform how his flight that was scheduled to take off at 8 am was yet to start from Kolkata at 2.09 pm.

"Pathetic condition, stuck in Kolkata airport from 8.00am for Delhi bound flight 6E 6245, no one is there to help. According to the rule you should offer refreshment at least," he wrote.

Out of the 22 direct flights that operate between Kolkata and Delhi on Sundays, 6 - operated by Indigo, Vistara, SpiceJet and Air India -fly out of Kolkata between 5.30 am and 8.15am.

Airlines apologised for the inconvenience but said they could do little on their part as the poor weather over Delhi threw flight schedules, both domestic and international, haywire for the whole day, causing delays and cancellations in departures and arrivals.
