  • West Bengal minister and senior Trinamool Congress leader Jyotipriya Mallick, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in alleged connection with the ration distribution case, was shifted back to Presidency Central Correctional Home from SSKM Hospital in Kolkata on Saturday night.

The development comes a around a week after the Calcutta High Court directed the state government-run IPGMER and SSKM Hospital in Kolkata to file an affidavit detailing the medical condition of “influential persons” undergoing treatment who are either arrested or accused in the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) recruitment scam.

Sources said that the probe agency is likely to move court to seek permission for questioning the arrested minister within the correction home’s premises.

In October last year, the ED had arrested Mallick for his alleged involvement in the PDS scam. After spending 14 days in ED custody, Mallick was sent to Presidency Central Correctional Home. However, on November 22, he was admitted to SSKM Hospital due to his ailing health.
