  • Six Enforcement Directorate (ED) teams on Thursday morning began searches at seven locations in Kolkata linked to Prasanna Roy, an alleged middleman in the SSC recruitment scam case.

The ED officials, accompanied by a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) contingent, raided the residence of Roy, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2022 in the case and later released on bail. The ED team reached his bungalow in Newtown at 6.10 am and questioned his relatives. According to officials, two other places in Newtown and one in Nayabad linked to Roy were also being searched.

The ED raided the house of Roy’s former assistant Pradeep Singh. The CBI had earlier claimed that Pradeep Singh was in touch with Shantiprasad Sinha, another accused arrested in the recruitment case. The ED also searched the house of transport businessman Rohit Jha in Nayabad.

After an ED team was assaulted in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali area on January 5 when they went to conduct searches at the premises of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, the security of the central agency units has been stepped up with more personnel.

Former education minister Partha Chatterjee and several TMC functionaries and officials of the state education department were jailed in connection with The SSC recruitment scam. The ED and the CBI are probing the alleged irregularities following a Calcutta High Court.
