Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Wednesday quashed the appointment of a state Wakf Board nominee, finding that the person was unqualified for the post.
Directing the state to select a new member through a second nomination, the single bench of Justice Sabyasachi Bhattacharyya said, “Merely being a member of the Haj Committee appointed by the state or a nazir or a mutawalli of a Wakf estate does not, in any manner whatsoever, confer any proficiency on a person within the contemplation of scholasticism or scholarship in Shia Islamic theology, although it may indicate the person is favoured by or is close to the state administration.” tnn
