  • KOLKATA: For now, flyers will have to undergo more intensive frisking and take off their shoes and belts for scans along with their cabin bags. A second round of frisking and manual bag checks will be carried out at boarding gates. Cars entering the airport will be checked. Hawking has been prohibited on the airport premises.

    Multiple measures were enforced from Friday as the airport went into a high-alert mode ahead of Republic Day.Entry of visitors into the terminal is already restricted.

    Security was stepped up on Friday with CISF deploying additional personnel and keeping in readiness two quick response teams (QRTs), bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs.

    Domestic flyers have been advised to report three hours before the flight and international flyers to reach four hours prior to the flight departure.
