• Schools to hold board practicals as per schedule but suspend jr classes

  • Kolkata: Most city schools have decided not to defer board practical examinations while a few have declared class suspension due to ‘unavoidable circumstances’ keeping in mind the rallies scheduled on Monday. There are some schools that will disperse kids earlier than usual.

    Sushila Birla Girls School, Birla High School, South Point, DPS Ruby Park have decided to conduct their board practical as per schedule.

    Birla High School has decided to conduct board practical exams as per schedule but classes have been suspended for junior sections. Sushila Birla Girls High School principal Koeli Dey said, “Board practical examinations will be held and only 34 students will take them. They will leave soon after the exam is over.”

    South Point School has declared a holiday on Monday as they had carnival for students on Saturday and Sunday. Around 90 students have practical exams on Monday that will be held as per schedule and only examinees and concerned teachers will come to school.

    DPS Ruby Park has issued a notice for parents that said, “Classes will be suspended on Monday due to unavoidable circumstances. Practice test of class X scheduled on Monday will be held on Thursday. However, the board practical examination will be held as scheduled on Monday, Jan 22. The reporting time of all examinees is 7.30 am.”

    St Xavier’s Collegiate School, Calcutta Boys’ Schools, too, have exams.

    A principal of a school in the central Kolkata said, “It’s difficult to reschedule practical examinations as we have a very short period of time to complete board practical exams. So, we will conduct practical examinations as per schedule.”

    There are a number of schools, located along the route that the interfaith rally led by CM Mamata Banerjee will take, that will either stay shut or shift to online mode. With the rally set to take Hazra Road from Hazra crossing before turning left to take Syed Amir Ali Avenue and then Suhrawardy Avenue to reach Park Circus Maidan, Our Lady Queen of the Missions and The BSS have shifted classes to online mode.

    Mahadevi Birla World Academy and Don Bosco Park Circus will stay shut. However, each school has cited different reasons to stay shut.

    There some schools located in central Kolkata that will disperse kids earlier than the regular schedule. St James School has class XII farewell on Monday and students will leave an hour before the usual dispersal. Assembly of God Church, Shri Shikshayatan, La Martiniere for Boys’ and Girls’ will disperse earlier than usual.
