  • KOLKATA: A 56-year-old clerk at Hazra Law College, Falguni Dutta, was found dead in a drain in Haridevpur on Tuesday. Dutta was returning from a wedding at Jodhpur Park when, sources said, he died after a sudden heart attack.

Cops are awaiting the final postmortem report. "Given the nature of injuries on his body, we are not ruling out foul play yet," an officer said.

"Around 8.20am, we received information that a person was lying unconscious in a drain on Barada Sarani. A police team brought the body out," said DC (Behala) Soumya Roy.

So far, the probe has revealed that Dutta had gone to attend a wedding at Taltala Math around 8.30pm on Monday.

He had asked his wife - who was at another wedding in Salt Lake and had said she would pick him up - to return home, saying he would get home before her.

"On returning home, she didn't find him and at Jodhpur Park about him. The family searched locally for around four hours before visiting the the roads of south Kolkata from 2.30am. On Tuesday morning, the family found him lying in the drain near his residence. Arrangements are being made to conduct inquest and postmortem," Roy said.
