  • KOLKATA: There will be no potable water supply to large parts of south Kolkata and its fringes on Saturday due to a maintenance and modernization work of Garden Reach water treatment plant.

According to plans, KMC will take up the work on Saturday morning and wrap it up by the end of the day. As a result, the plant that caters to the drinking water needs of large parts of south Kolkata, including Garden Reach, Behala, New Alipore, Tollygunge, Jadavpur and several other areas, will suspend water supply.

Normal supply will be restored on Sunday morning, a KMC official said on Wednesday. "We have taken up a thorough repair and modernization of the Garden Reach plant, which includes repair and installation of higher diameter valves, electro-mechanical drives, HT pumps, high voltage motors/electrical appliances, among other necessary work," said a civic official.
